One more small bird of Blackheath – the last one for the day. It’s a Varied sittella. It sings a pretty song and acrobatically works it’s way down tree branches looking for bugs to eat. #smallbirdsofblackheath September 24th, 2018

Another sweet little bird of Blackheath – the Rose robin ( not to be confused with the pink robin of Tasmania ) lives mostly down in the shady damp canyon below our house. Pink and grey with a dash of white above the beak. Thank you again to @calyptorhynchus for clarifying my confusion on this little chappy. September 24th, 2018julie
This is a copperhead. Harry chased it into the pond and I’ve just managed to coax it out and now it’s disappeared into the garden. The snake lady on the phone who was talking me through the whole thing said it most likely wouldn’t bite and just to slowly chase it away but she said it probably lives nearby. I’m draining the pond as we speak. Phew. Cup of tea and back to work. September 20th, 2018julie
A bassian thrush. This shy bird hangs out on the ground around the cabins searching for grubs. She’s quite strikingly patterned and sings a lovely tune with extra big black eyes because she works in the shade all day long. I’ve only seen her twice but lucky for us I have my resident and very excellent photographer @calyptorhynchus on hand to quietly patiently get the shot. Actually I think she’s a he or even a they. Not sure, doesn’t matter. September 19th, 2018julie
Just discovered a bit of scraperboard in my cupboard and was very surprised to find under the black coating is shiny gold! I used to use scraperboard back in the day when I toyed with the idea of being an illustrator in my first year of artschool. Back then it was a white chalky ground under the black not this fancy gold nonsense. Anyway I fancied drawing this wee little striated thornbill – from a photograph taken by @calyptorhynchus a few months ago. And this little bird drawing is dedicated to Lin bird Woman Cooper, who has a really bad cough and I hope she is on the mend. September 18th, 2018julie
Any one up for a last minute weekend in the Blue Mountains? This weekend coming, 21st – 22nd Sept, Cabin Two has just become available. If you’re interested nip over to our @roughtrackcabins insta account to book. And if you mention this post I’ll give you a bit of a discount just because I feel like it and I’ve had a nice Sunday pottering around making curtains and things which always puts me in a good mood. It’s lovely up here at the mo. Let’s face it it always lovely but right now in early spring there are millions of frogs singing in the dam and lots of birds on the move and the plants are starting to stir. It’s still cool enough for a toasty log fire in the evening but sunny anD warm in the daytime. Come on up people and I’ll show you round our newly finished workshop and studio space. It’s all lovely. You don’t even need a car – the train will get you to Blackheath from Sydney in a couple of hours and I can pick you up from the station. And the cabins are literally overlooking the best walk in the Mountains – the Grand Canyon. All you need for the whole weekend is a beanie a pair of walking boots and a bottle of wine. Nice. So this page features my instagram posts. Here's where you'll see the things that inspire me and what I'm making - artworks, designs, products, collaborations and so on. You'll see what I'm making from my #ScrapCloth pieces, what's happening in my Blue Mountains studio and at #roughtrackcabins, our two ironstone cabins where you can come and stay. You’ll get to see what's going on with my #lookdrawprint workshops when they are on, and find out if I’m doing something special like a wee Cloth pop-up shop. I'd love to keep you in the loop about all of this. If you'd like that too, I reckon you should follow me on Instagram and Facebook.
